Nomad no more

If you have known me more than 5 years you will have at least two, maybe three recent addresses on file for me. If you have known me more than 10 years, about 8 address and if you are my family or Steve you have had over 10. I am a nomad…a free-spirit….I’ve got gypsy blood.

We are about 3 hours from signing paperwork on our house. We did this once before, but put much less thought into it and ended up living in the house for about 6 months. It was a mistake, not a big one, in fact we have much larger mistakes that we are still paying on and will be parked in the driveway of the new house, but still a mistake. Buying this house is not a mistake.

When ever I see the roots and wings quote I know I have the wings part down. Madigan is a great traveler, she has gotten a tremendous amount of experience. She loves hotels and airports. Can handle a 10 hour drive like nobody’s business. If packing up an apartment was an Olympic sport, I would have the most metals, and all gold. I have driven between Virginia and Washington a few times. Buying this house will most likely put an end to that. I can’t say we will stay somewhere forever, but what we want to do now requires roots…literally.

I have some concerns, cause no one knows me like I do. 2 1/2 or 3 years is about all I have been able to do in the past. I hope to break that record. If what I want is chickens, and a garden, and stability for Madigan and our family, then we have to stay put. I need to be like asparagus. Asparagus can grow each season for 25 years off the roots you plant originally, the catch is, you can’t disturb the roots.

I am gonna work on being asparagus-like, and hopefully not disturb the roots.

Good parents give their children roots and wings. Roots to know where home is, wings to fly away and exercise what’s been taught them.
